Fylde Coast YMCA – Changing and enhancing lives

February 23rd, 2011 by rich

After a thorough scoping meeting with Rowan and Emma of the Fylde Coast YMCA the plans were drawn up, the troops put in place and the date set. That day has now arrived and the new look website is live! A lot of time and effort has been placed in making this happen and we’re chuffed to bits with the new site.

Fylde Coast carries out some vital work in the community that adds real value to the lives of the people who use their services on a regular basis. It was essential we made the new site as informative and useful as possible whilst also being engaging and fun to use.

Given the different audiences Fylde work with we needed a cohesive online platform that would provide opportunities for personal and social development through various community based and social initiatives. The new site will ultimately increase brand awareness, act as an effective resource tool for existing and potential clients and create an online information portal.

Not only are we extremely happy with the result, the project has also been a thoroughly enjoyable one to be part of. Have a gander and let us know what you think!

Steve Moon joins the digital team

October 14th, 2010 by Michael

I don’t know what it is, perhaps the confused flow of the Medlock’s crystal clear waters, but our recruitment compass has swung a full 180 degrees these past few years. It used to be Yorkshire lads and lasses making the trans-Pennine trek towards Waulk Mill, but these days it seems like every man and his dog between Warrington and Liverpool wants to work for us. Anyway as one fully-fledged Scouser Dom McVeigh moves onto the Big Smoke another joins us in the shape of Steve ‘Sinbad’ Moon as Lead Digital Creative.

When he’s not confused about court injunctions regarding his favourite football team, Steve is a seasoned digital campaigner having worked at some of the region’s most highly regarded and purely digital agencies over the past few years. With extensive experience in digital design and video production Steve brings a whole new skillset to the Studio North offer.

Having started his career at the fledgling new media department (Magneto) of the then famous TCW right here in Manchester, Steve then developed his trade further via Elevator and Pavilion (now Amaze) before most recently working at Photolink. Exposed to working creatively with brands such as John Lewis, Odeon, Microsoft and Astra Zeneca we are already excited about some of his early creative output.

Finally, Steve likes to record the Jeremy Kyle show.

COMPETITION. You can win a second hand tape cassette copy of the ‘The Very Best of Cilla Black’ by guessing what Steve is doing with his left hand in ‘the best picture he could find’. I’d hate to see the worst.

MyParasol interactive demo goes live

May 6th, 2010 by Michael

We rather like this stylish interactive demo we have produced to explain how Parasol’s contractors should use MyParasol, their online portal. The whole demo has been carefully crafted by the Studio North digital team with brand guidelines firmly in mind. Everything from the actual script  to the voiceover and animations have been created with an absolute respect for the brand we created last year.

Keeping it up

April 15th, 2009 by Dave

Studio North’s own dedicated web hosting service has achieved a cracking 100% uptime since its birth in January last year.

We currently have our very own shiny Linux server sitting in a London datacentre, which we manage internally and is supported by the lovely people at Rackspace. All our clients are offered the opportunity to have their website, database, and email hosted by ourselves. With our IT bods able to manage the server, its software and settings, we’re able to cater for complicated setups and offer a wide variety of options and services to enhance their website.

As we put more and more of our lives online, the more we depend on websites working when we need them. The recent GMail outage caused panic when users weren’t able to get at their e-mail all morning. If your visitors can’t get to your site first time, they will look elsewhere – so it’s important to have a host you can rely on.
