Comic Relief Auction

March 18th, 2011 by rich

Goodies are always popular in any office and here at Studio North it’s no different. However, seeing as today is comic relief we thought we’d change it up a little bit and auction off the goodies instead!

So, with pennies in pockets the bidding commenced – Mr Moon taking advantage of a room temperature bacon sarnie for £3! The remainder of the goodies ranged from jelly babies to the good ol’ office favourite – Jaffa cakes!

However, the star of the show seemed to be our Creative Director, Nick Wright. Now, just to give you a bit of background – Nick has a reputation at Studio North; he never, EVER makes a cup of tea! Some people have been here 9 years and this is the first brew they’ve had! Unfortunately, it wasn’t a case of good things coming to those who wait. The tea was mediocre at best; some people barely got half a cup of tea because he ran out of water! I’m not sure others even risked tasting theirs. When you hear comments of ‘look at the state of that tea’ you know it’s not looking good. It’s fair to say Nick was taken out of his comfort zone on this occasion!

Anyway, just a bit of fun for a Friday and a little bit of money raised for comic relief. Not a bad day at the office! Every little helps after all!

Have a look at Nick’s efforts below – I must warn you though, it’s not for the faint hearted!

Wizard Wednesdays – Back in motion

October 19th, 2010 by rich

Back by popular demand – tomorrow, Wednesday 20th October, will become Stagecoach’s next Wizard Wednesday. A day when Manchester’s Magic Bus drivers don the pointy hats and cloaks before getting behind the wheel, in aid of the Everyman appeal.

What’s more, Wizard Wednesday fans will also catch a glimpse of the new look bus backs we have designed for Stagecoach Manchester, incorporating a new logo and wizard character!

Throughout the day, the Stagecoach wizards will be collecting donations for the worthwhile charity, and every penny raised will be put towards helping to fund life saving research. We wish Stagecoach all the best and hope the day is a fantastic success.

SN Cup: The Inside Story

March 23rd, 2010 by Michael

20 March 2010. 1000hrs Ardwick, Manchester, England.

Cometh the hour, cometh the SN Cup. As promised, liquid football, in the name of a great cause, AuKids Magazine.

Ronaldo, Messi and Rooney take a backseat. Step forward Buckley, Butterworth and Lowe. This is your time. Use it wisely.

Manchizzle was the only weather on the menu, setting the atmosphere up nicely and getting the adrenaline going. As the crowds gathering at Powerleague Ardwick reached fever pitch, approaching half past the hour, it was evident what a tremendous turnout we had on our hands. Every single player had turned up. Not one cry off, not one dodgy excuse.  Unheard of in my football organising lifetime. I was then faced with the almighty task of keeping a huge squad of ‘insurance’ players happy. Tricky this rotation management style lark. Thanks to Mick Greer for agreeing to his last minute transfer!

Zipped to victory!

March 30th, 2009 by Rachel

Ok ok so the fairies ended up looking more like female 118s but we could still work it….kinda.   Having left our self respect firmly in the house we arrived at the Manchester Imperial War museum in the freezing cold with only pink tutus to keep us warm but frankly looking bloomin’ marvelous.  The slide itself was amazing fun and with £450 raised for Cash For Kids you can’t go far wrong and we’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone that sponsored us.  Roll on next year I say, then we’ll come complete with matching pink moustaches….

Zip for victory

March 19th, 2009 by Rachel

The firm commitment to Key 103’s Cash For Kids has been taken to a whole new level by the gruesome twosome aka Kaz and well, me.  Not only are we weird enough to agree to be zip wired across the Manchester ship canal from the top of the Imperial War Museum to do a bit of fundraising but to make matters worse we’re committed to completing said activity dressed in fairy outfits…..Hmmmm.  An interesting mental image that will no doubt provoke many a mental scar when presented in photographic form.  Of course it’s going to be really difficult considering how introverted and shy we are as a pair not to mention how terrified we are of heights (slight artistic license there but go with it) but we will struggle through, it is for charity after all ;-)

In all seriousness though it is an amazing cause and if you would like to show your support you can easily bob to our just giving site and make a donation:

Charity football tournament

July 30th, 2008 by Michael

A few of the lads in the office recently played in the Allseas Challenge Cup at the JJB Soccerdome in Trafford Park. With over twenty teams from all over the UK taking part for charity, expectations were low and our squad of six feared the worst as kick off loomed large. However, after a mixed afternoon (3 wins and 2 defeats), Studio North’s finest managed a respectable third placed group finish which unfortunately meant we missed out on the knockout stages but were able to hold our heads high as for the first time ever we weren’t laughed out of the place. Rumours that a certain director deliberately engineered the early exit to ensure a strategic vantage point for the buffet are completely unfounded.

Phil ‘The Power’ Hanley of Allseas Cargo collecting money for charity with his er, tongue. When he’s not busy looking like an idiot, Phil is actually one of the star players of the host company who lost the final to Liverpool firm CSAV. All proceeds of the event went to Manchester Kids.

Allseas Cargo is a leading global forwarder specialising in project and out of gauge movements. If you need to get anything anywhere in the world they can probably help so give them a shout www.allseascargo.com

Support for local NACC group

March 10th, 2008 by Michael

We are proud to report that we are continuing to support the North West group of the NACC by producing their quarterly newsletter throughout 2008. The National Association for Colitis and Crohn’sDisease (NACC) brings together people of all ages who have Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease, their families and the health professionals involved in their care. These two illnesses are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and they affect about 1 in 400 people in the United Kingdom.

Organiser Tony Mills commented “Studio North have provided the group with invaluable help in communicating our latest news and fundraising activities to our membership base in an extremely cost-effective manner.
