Halton Children and Young People’s Plan

August 24th, 2009 by Michael

It’s been far too long without any snippets of work so without further ado, here is the first in what will now be a regular supply of work visuals over the next few weeks as we have a serious backlog of work to get through. Part 1 shows a recent piece of creative work delivered for Halton Borough Council and their Children and Young People’s Plan. The plan, an eighty four page publication details the borough’s vision for the next two years. We’re proud of it and the client loved it!Halton_childrens_guide

Will the rumoured Apple Tablet be a bitter pill to swallow?

August 24th, 2009 by Andy

Those of you out there with a keen ear to the ground on all things ‘technology’ will no doubt by now have heard muffled whispers from California regarding a new Apple device, soon to be launched on the open market (in time for Christmas, sources reveal candidly): a tablet-style computer designed for swift, on-the-move web surfing, MP3 listening and movie watching that you can pop in your handbag (ladies) or school satchel (gents). With no keyboard (save for a virtual device on the screen when you need it) the whole surface area will apparently be one large touchpad, similar in operation to the current iPhone.

Public Sector Wins…

August 5th, 2009 by matt

I’ve been having a bit of a PR push this week on a trio of major public sector new business briefs…..

For Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the team will be developing a new website that will be a 24 hour showcase for the Trust’s services – both for staff and the general public. A number of key aims and considerations are at the centre of the work including; the need for it to be an effective engagement tool for local people, for it to act as an interactive platform where staff can understand how their views can help to shape and reflect the Trust’s good governance and business processes, for it to support tender bids as well as create greater engagement with community GPs. This new project follows the work we’ve recently delievered around the Trust’s customer communications and service branding.

The second brief – for Halton Borough Council – will again see Studio North flexing its online credentials with a corporate website redesign. The new site will be aimed at both business and residential visitors across the Council’s reach which includes Runcorn and Widnes. The core aim is for the site to reflect the cultures and values of the Council as well as being focused on customers’ needs. This will vary from individuals looking to access specific council services to businesses looking to invest in the region.

The final brief – from Trafford Community Leisure Trust (TCLT) – comes hot on the heels of a long term relationship spanning some six years which has been focused on creating and developing the TCLT brand.  The new project will be based specifically around the redesign and development of its next generation website. A number of new technical functions will be added such as online booking for swimming and memberships with Studio North’s role being around creative development and implementation. The Trust’s strap-line, ‘More people, more active, more often’, will run as a central theme.

There’s some really exciting stuff going on so keep your eyes peeled for press coverage over the next week or so!

No-one puts baby in the corner

August 4th, 2009 by Andy

Being a mere plebian designer, my literary intake is generally confined to the sport pages of the local rag, however on this occasion I’d like to share with you a recent journey I had into Dante’s Inferno.

For the uninitated this term is derived from ‘The Divine Comedy‘, which is an allegory telling of the journey of Dante through what is largely the medieval concept of Hell, guided by the Roman poet Virgil. In the poem, hell is depicted as 9 Circles of suffering located within the earth, each one becoming more horrific than the last. The first, uppermost levels contain the sinners who haven’t really been that bad at all, the unvirtous, the cheats, the greedy and so forth. Continuing further into the bowels, each Circle becomes more gruesome until you reach the final levels containing the scum of humanity; the murderers, rapists, politicians and so forth. So far, so good, then.

However, thanks to Northern Rail’s 17.27 Blackpool North service last night, I believe I may have inadvertently stumbled upon another, concluding circle, possibly overlooked by Dante in his haste to escape the Beast himself. It appears to be reserved to those members of society who have no sense of social grace, manners or intelligence; the People Who Play Music Through Their Mobile Phones (In Public).
