Charity for free….

July 14th, 2008 by Rachel

Even the most generous spirited of people can feel the pinch sometimes which is why the breast cancer site’s initiative to donate free mammograms for every click they get on their website can make you feel like you’re doing your bit without costing you a penny….

Simply log into the site daily, click on the link provided and the site’s sponsors will donate a mammogram to a woman in need.  If you think you will forget to log in their’s even a link to add a reminder application to your desk top.

Tree for all

July 9th, 2008 by Rachel

One of our green goals for 2008 is to make our clients aware of the possibility and encourage as many as possible to transfer to recycled or sustainable stock for their printed work.  Many are already there, proactively asking for sustainable stock but others are unable to do so for a variety of reasons including brand consistency and cost.

To combat this, and to further our long term aim of sustained and recycled stock being the staple at Studio North; an opt out rather than opt in policy, we are going to plant a tree through the Woodland Trust for every client who orders a print job not of environmentally friendly stock.

Admittedly this is not a science and although contributing to our carbon neutrality it will not be included in our carbon offsetting programme but we feel that it once again reconfirms our dedication to our environmental improvement whilst simultaneously ensuring the longevity and endurance of the UK’s countryside.

Welcome back Dangerous

July 1st, 2008 by Rachel

After two long weeks we at Studio North can breathe a sigh of relief as Dave rejoins the motley crew having recovered from a nasty burst appendix….Laughing in the face of danger Dave “Dangerous” Barnes made his way, in an unhurried and with a casual gait to hospital two weeks ago with an upset stomach only to discover he was to be incarcerated for the next few weeks having burst his appendix no doubt doing something extremely dangerous….

As the weeks ticked slowly by we could pine for the digital demon and were over the moon when he rejoined us today making as much noise as ever. Miss Karen Jones, also of the digital department couldn’t control her excitement and had to take the day off to recover. We also wish her a speedy recovery ;-)

Sustainable success!

July 1st, 2008 by Rachel

Over the last few months here at SN we have done a number of things to improve our environmental performance and already we are getting positive results.

Having joined the Carbon Trust, calculated our carbon footprint and offset our emissions wherever possible we decided that the next step would be to switch to a totally sustainable energy provider.

Despite being more expensive (most sustainable providers have a price tag of 10 – 15% more than traditional energy sources) we have already begun to reap the rewards.  Incredible we know but increased awareness coupled with simple initiatives such as switching off lights, monitors and turning down the thermostat by a couple of degrees has already resulted in a drop in our monthly direct debit….

Our small changes make a big difference policy is certainly paying off and yes, we may be a little smug about it but hey, we’re being green AND benefitting from it, best of both worlds I’d say :-)

The Grammar Brand Identity

July 1st, 2008 by Michael

We’ve recently created a brand identity for a new sports and leisure facility in Hale, Cheshire called The Grammar, planned to open this Summer.  Our creative team have designed an identity, built a new website and created a suite of literature templates dedicated to individual activities.
